Haven Acres Canadians
We are a Canadian horse farm located in Port Alberni, BC on beautiful Vancouver Island. We discovered Canadians in 2000 and fell in love and we haven't looked back since! Never had I seen a horse breed that was quite like the Canadian, although Lunn remembers them well when growing up in rural New Brunswick. Back then, they used them a lot for riding, driving, logging their woodlots and plowing their fields.

Canadian horses are wonderfully gentle, people-oriented horses with great bone, stamina and all that mane and tail gives them a particularly charming, rugged appearance that we find very appealing.

CLOSED > Haven Acres Vacation Home & Bed and Bale!

You only have to look at the growing popularity of horse packing trips, cattle drives and ranch vacations to see that people are looking for ways to include their love of horseback riding with their vacation time. Now you no longer have to go to the time and expense of travelling off island with your horses to enjoy your equine vacation! We have a 3 bedroom, comfortably furnished home that is all set up for you and your horses!

Situated on the beautiful West Coast of Vancouver Island, we have spectacular scenery, plenty of trails and tons of attractions in the area. You can go riding one day and then put your horses out to pasture and you're off to do some whale watching or fishing the next. We also have trail maps, boxstalls and a 50' roundpen at your disposal. Originally, we were caught up in the notion that the ideal Canadian is tall and black but since then we have visited many different farms in Quebec and Ontario that have been breeding the Canadian horse for many years (some for many generations!) and realized that the original Canadian type is not usually over 15.2 and never over 16 hands. We also learned that they are not a color breed either and we have seen many stunning Canadians that were bays, browns and chestnuts.

Today, we have suspended our breeding program and reduced our herd (although we have kept our better breeding horses, just in case...) but we are still fascinated with this wonderful, rare breed and interested in promoting and competing with our horses at shows.

All of our horses are purebred, registered Canadians with the great stamina, build and temperament the Canadian horse is renowned for! We now have just 6 Canadians of different sizes and colors at various ages and stages of training. Our horses all receive daily handling and regular worming and foot care and we think it shows in the wonderful, gentle nature of all our horses!

We hope that you enjoy looking at pictures of our horses, learn a little something of the history of the Canadian horse and come to love the Canadian as much as we do! Please check back often to see what's new and what's for sale.
